Kovar plate is a vacuum melted. It contains components like nickel, iron and cobalt. These alloy is the low expansion alloy. The chemical composition of the alloy is managed within narrow limits to ensure the precise, uniform thermal expansion property of the alloy. Usually, Kovar alloy finds application in glass-to-metal seals in scientific apparatus and conductors entering glass envelopes of electronic parts such as vacuum tubes (valves), X-ray and microwave tubes, and lightbulbs. Thus, Kovar alloy is designed to meet the need for a reliable glass-to-metal seal required in electronic devices like vacuum tubes, cathode ray tubes, vacuum systems, and other scientific research. The metals cannot seal to glass because their coefficient of thermal expansion is not the same as the glass. So, the joint cools after fabrication stresses due to the different expansion rates of the glass and metal. This alloy has a thermal as well as a nonlinear thermal expansion curve. So, it can frequently match a glass. Also, those allowing joints are tolerating a wide-ranging temperature. The alloy via glass intermediate forms an oxide layer of the element like nickel and cobalt oxide. The proportion percent of iron oxide is very low because of its reduction with cobalt components. It has the advantage that the strength of these bond components is mostly dependent on the oxide layer width and character. Because the oxide layer melts in the presence of cobalt, and it dissolves in the molten glass.
